Treatment of Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer

T4 lesions are also considered as locally advanced pancreatic cancer (AJCC sixth edition). In these lesions the tumor has spread to the branches of celiac axis or the superior mesenteric artery. These tumors are unresectable and are at stage III in disease progression. Nonoperative palliation is mostly used to treat the associated obstructive jaundice, gastroduodenal obstruction and abdominal pain. The different approaches that are used for the treatment of locally advanced pancreatic cancer are chemotherapy, radiotherapy, chemoradiotherapy and palliation.
